ASHBROOK recently became a title sponsor of the HAWKSTONE Park motocross circuit in Hopton, Shropshire, one of the most famous circuits in the world.
Based at the home of the Salop Motor Club (SMC), the Hawkstone circuit started out as a hill climb venue run by the Cheshire Car Club in the 1950’s. After these early days, SMC began to run motocross events culminating in 1999 with the hosting of a motocross Grand Prix drawing daily crowds of over 30,000. Last weekend saw the highlight of the season – the HAWKSTONE MX International with competitors from all over the world descending on the Park and competing in the daylong competition.
Dave Williams – Chair of Salop Motor Club – mentioned that this annual event is the biggest motocross event in Europe and maintains the interest of world ranked riders due to the quality of the course, location, and challenges of the natural terrain.
Dave went on to say “On behalf of the Salop Moto Club I’d like to thank James Ashbrook and the whole of the ASHBROOK team for all your efforts. They’ve injected a level of professionalism and provided a service far beyond our expectations. The circuit rode well and looked exceptional; we had the highest number of spectators for many years. I just can’t thank ASHBROOK enough for helping to make this such a successful event, and I’m looking forward to working with them in the future”.
ASHBROOK supply and support plant machinery and site essentials for the entire grounds managed by SMC. Covering some 120 acres, the multi-use race circuit includes natural wooded areas, a sand/loam mixed track, and grazed grass fields. The track has a series of inclines, jumps and drops AND the HAWKSTONE Hill – a rise of some 110meters, and at a gradient of 1 in 3 requires considered and careful preparation and rider navigation.
ASHBROOK delivered 6 Generac VB9 towerlights providing 20Lux illumination over 3,600msq used to light up the track allowing the SMC to get a safe, early start and work late into the evenings. The VB9’s built in generators also provided 240w power to all the portacabins, permanent conveniences and temporary official’s locations.
JCB 540V140 Telehandlers were used to position the towerlights, temporary visitor sanitation facilities and make light work of a host of other requirements. A CAT 313f 13t excavator was deployed for levelling & grading the circuit and some public access areas, and even ended up removing a fallen tree from the track.
The CAT D6K was used extensively to grade the track and peak the jumps prior to the competition, and again during the intervals to keep the racing conditions optimal. Two John Deere 6155m used a chain harrow to improve surface of the track.
ASHBROOK will be supporting the SMC throughout the year and assisting with a further 8 racing events. For more details about future events at HAWKSTONE please visit: http://www.hawkstonemx.co.uk/
